HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 c167W
81. Sir Edward Keeling

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether any decision has been reached on the suggestion that Her Majesty might be pleased to confer the title "Royal" on the Civil Defence Corps.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Yes. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have not felt able to submit to Her Majesty a recommendation to confer the title "Royal" upon the Civil Defence Corps, but we are proud to be able to state that Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to accept the title of Head of the Civil Defence Corps.
