HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 c176W
102. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Food how much of the 6,746,000 tons of the 1952 main crop of potatoes in Great Britain was offered to organisations who process them for animal feed; and what is the estimated tonnage of wastage owing to deterioration.

Dr. Hill

Whenever my Department has surplus potatoes for disposal they can be bought for processing into animal food and no question of offering to sell specific quantities arises. Some wastage is normal when growers store potatoes, but I cannot estimate its extent.
