HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 c162W
65. Mr. de Freitas

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will make a statement on the importation of Land-race pigs; and, in particular, why the National Pig Breeders' Association and not the British Landrace Society has been entrusted with the task of buying these pigs.

Mr. Nugent

An announcement has already been made that the National Pig Breeders' Association has been invited to undertake the importation of about 100 Swedish Landrace pigs for sale by auction in this country. My right hon. Friend has decided to entrust the arrangements to the National Pig Breeders' Association because it is generally representative of the breeding side of the pig industry in Great Britain. The British Landrace Society are being consulted about the selection of pigs for purchase.
