HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 cc167-8W
80. Mr. A. J. Irvine

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of matters arising in the judgment on appeal in the case of Ellis v. Home Office, he will now reconsider possible alterations in the methods employed within his Department of determining whether, in relation to the disclosure of particular documents within the ambit of privilege, privilege should be insisted on.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I have seen Press reports of the judgment in the case referred to and I am satisfied that the action taken was not only in accordance with the law but was also in keeping with the procedure prescribed for all Departments of State. I propose however to give further consideration to this matter in consultation with my colleagues.
