HC Deb 20 May 1953 vol 515 c140W
72. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what provisions have been made by the Uganda Government in connection with racial discrimination in hotels and restaurants; and whether he will bring these to the notice of other Governments in East and Central Africa.

Mr. Hopkinson

The Hotels Ordinance,. 1952, includes a clause providing that hotel-keepers shall receive and lodge all travellers unless they have reasonable ground to refuse them accommodation. The new liquor rules of 22nd January,.1953, provide that no licensee shall refuse to sell non-spirituous liquor to any person without reasonable grounds.

I will draw the attention of the Governors of other East and Central African territories to this Question and reply.
