asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies why the Tanganyika Government will not agree to the introduction of a route licensing system for their road services.

The development of communications in Tanganyika was reviewed in 1950 by a local committee, which concluded that it would be premature and not in the public interest to limit competition between road transporters or to introduce transport monopolies by licensing until the traffic density on the roads was far greater than it then was. The Government of Tanganyika concurred in this opinion and has, so far, seen no reason to change it.
