§ 78. Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, if his attention has been called to paragraph 7. page 6 of the Annual Report of the Colonial Development Corporation regarding the future of the Corporation: and what steps he is taking in this matter.
§ Mr. HopkinsonMy attention has been called to the passage in question in the Corporation's Report for 1952. No specific reply has been made to the suggestion in paragraph 7 (4), but two questions at once arise: first, whether such a procedure would be compatible with the provisions of the Overseas Resources Development Act, 1948; and, secondly, whether schemes of the kind referred to are not better financed from other sources.
§ 79. Mr. J. Dugdaleasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies his reasons for dispensing with the services of Professor Arthur Lewis as a member of the Board of the Colonial Development Corporation.
§ 81. Mr. A. J. Irvineasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the reasons for the decision to inform Professor Arthur Lewis that his appointment as a director of the Colonial Development Corporation has expired.

§ Mr. HopkinsonIt is quite wrong to speak of "dispensing with" Professor Lewis's services. The appointment which he was offered, and which he accepted, was for two years, which expired on the 30th April, 1953.
