Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will indicate for each of the counties in Wales, the mileage of roads which has been classified as trunk roads, Class II increased to Class I, Class III to Class II, and from unclassified roads to Class III, since April, 1950, to date.

The figures are:

to the Roads, etc. Vote of the Ministry of Transport. In respect of cases arising after that date in Wales, the Ministry of Transport has collected and paid over to the highway authorities concerned £83,683 from the Service Departments and £7,925 from the Ministry of Fuel and Power. These contributions related to works carried out in conjunction with road improvements assisted by grants from the Road Fund. In all other cases arising after 31st March, 1946, payments by Government Departments and the National Coal Board have been made direct to the highway authorities.
