HC Deb 14 May 1953 vol 515 cc86-7W
Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Education the names of the primary schools, with the number of pupils in each, in Breconshire and Radnorshire at which children are not given fresh milk; what substitute is being used; and how the meals of children in the rural schools, therefore, compare with those in the urban schools as far as sweets and puddings for the mid-day meals are concerned.

Miss Horsbrugh

In Brecon, the following schools—

Number on roll
Crickadarn 6
Elan Village 26
Gwenddwr 32
Llaneglwys 18

use reconstituted national dried milk for drinking and dried skim milk for cooking.

In Radnor,

Number on roll
Canpol School 27

uses reconstituted national dried milk for drinking and liquid milk or dried milk for cooking. Where a satisfactory supply of fresh milk cannot be arranged I am satisfied that the children in the rural schools concerned get good well-balanced meals which compare favourably with those supplied in urban schools, most of which use some dried milk for cooking.
