HC Deb 11 May 1953 vol 515 c62W
64. Mrs. Castle

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether, in view of the lateness of the home crop of new potatoes, he will permit imports to be continued until the end of this month.

Mr. Mackeson

In consultation with my right hon. Friends the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Minister of Food, I have decided that no case has so far been established for postponing suspension of the open general licence for imports of foreign potatoes, which, as previously announced, takes effect as from 16th May. The supply situation is, however, being kept constantly under review.
