Wakefieldasked the Minister of Transport to what extent the amount of capital expenditure sanctioned by him for road improvements for the London County Council area for 1951, 1952 and 1953, include such items as surfacing, removal of tram tracks, alignment of kerbs and other minor improvements; and what proportion is attributable to specific items of pew construction.
Mr. BraithwaiteThe amounts attributable to minor improvements out of the totals sanctioned are £350,000 out of £840,000 in 1951, £1,535,000 out of £1,630,000 in 1952 and £830,000 out of £850,000 in the first quarter of 1953. The balances relate to major improvements of the nature of widenings, junction improvement, provision of roundabouts, etc. There were no complete schemes of new construction.
