HC Deb 07 May 1953 vol 515 c34W
Mr. Dugdale

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department the number of police in the Metropolitan area who are employed in recovering stolen property; and what is the value of the property recovered last year.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

It is the duty of all Metropolitan Police officers to do all that they can to recover stolen property, and no officers are employed solely on this task. The value of the property recovered in the Metropolitan Police district last year was £749,450.
