HC Deb 07 May 1953 vol 515 c39W
52 and 53. Mr. P. Roberts

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) how many tons of imported asparagus have been allowed into this country since the quota date from when the 150 tons' allowance began to run:

(2) how the returns are made to enable him to keep a check on the amount of asparagus imported into this country during the quota period of the 150 tons' allowance.

Mr. H. Strauss

The quota for imports of asparagus during the period 16th April to 30th June, 1953, is 50 tons and not 150 tons. Holders of import licences are required to submit weekly returns to the Ministry of Food showing their actual imports during the previous week and their expected imports during the next week. These returns show that imports from 16th April to 2nd May, amounted to 29 tons.
