HC Deb 01 May 1953 vol 514 c128W
Sir S. Marshall

asked the Minister of Agriculture what estimate he has made of the damage done to salmon fishing on the River Severn by the discharge of untreated sewage into the Severn; and what steps he is taking to prevent this pollution, in view of the loss of food supplies involved.

Sir T. Dugdale

My Department and the Severn River Board are aware that the salmon fisheries of the River Severn have progressively declined in recent years owing to a number of causes, including pollution by sewage effluent. As regards the second part of the Question, I would refer my hon. Friend to the reply given on Monday, 27th April, by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Housing and Local Government.
