HC Deb 31 March 1953 vol 513 c135W
77. Mr. Mikardo

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that there is a shortage of shillings in Reading; and if he will arrange for the issue of shillings from the Mint reserve to cover this local shortage.

Mr. R. A. Butler

If the banks in Reading cannot meet local demands for shillings the most helpful suggestion I can make is that they should apply to their head offices for additional supplies.
