Commander GalbraithMy right hon. Friend is aware of the financial problems of Scottish local authorities and substantial grants are being given by the Government to assist them in meeting their124W expenditure. In 1950–51 the grants amounted to approximately £41 million and in 1951–52 to £47 million. The estimated receipts from rates in the same years were £32 million, and £37 million respectively.
