HC Deb 31 March 1953 vol 513 c130W
68. Mr. Swingler

asked the President of the Board of Trade his estimate of the number of British first-feature films which will be available for exhibition in the quota year beginning 1st October, 1953, on which he based his decision to leave the prescribed quota of 30 per cent.

Mr. H. Strauss

My right hon. Friend has not made a precise estimate of the number of films of 6,500 feet and more in length which are likely to be made in the calendar year 1953. In view, however, of the statement on the future of the British Film Production Fund, which he made on 10th March, in reply to Questions on this subject, he thinks it reasonable to expect that the number of films which will be available in the quota year beginning on 1st October, 1953, will not be less than in recent years.
