HC Deb 26 March 1953 vol 513 c99W
69. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many hundredweights of fish have been caught and landed by British trawlers fishing in Icelandic waters this year compared with a year ago; and what further progress has been made in respect of the Icelandic fisheries dispute.

Mr. Nugent

The total quantity of white fish from Icelandic waters landed by British trawlers in January and February of this year was 320,610 cwt. For the same period last year the total was 86,725 cwt., an unusually low figure due largely to exceptionally bad weather. As to the second part of the Question, I cannot add to the reply given by my hon. Friend the Joint Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to my hon. Friend the Member for Louth (Mr. Osborne) on 11th March.
