HC Deb 26 March 1953 vol 513 cc114-5W
Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of National Insurance how many fishermen in the Girvan area have been refused unemployment benefit; and what are the reasons.

Mr. Peake:

I presume the hon. Member is referring to disallowances under the Seasonal Workers Regulations. Thirty-four fishermen have been disallowed benefit this month in the Girvan area on the ground that they had not satisfied the condition requiring them to prove that they had had, or could reasonably expect to obtain, a substantial amount of employment in their current off-seasons. Decisions are awaited on a further 67 claims.
