asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the number of those unemployed for more than eight weeks in Scotland represents a higher percentage of the wholly unemployed than in any other region in the United Kingdom; and what steps the Government are prepared to take in the immediate future to solve this problem.

Yes. Employment exchanges will continue their efforts to assist unemployed persons to get work. I would refer the hon. Member to what my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade said during the debate on Development Areas and distribution of industry on 25th February last about the Government's employment policy and the steps being taken to increase employment in Scotland.
