HC Deb 24 March 1953 vol 513 cc70-1W
71. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland to make a statement on the future of Newhills Sanatorium, Newhills, Aberdeenshire.

Mr. J. Stuart

I have approved a proposal, on which the North-Eastern Regional Hospital Board and Aberdeen Corporation are both agreed in principle, that Newhills Sanatorium should be conveyed to the Corporation for welfare purposes. The Board are satisfied that they can replace the 24 beds at Newhills in other hospitals. The Corporation will use Newhills for accommodating certain of the residents at present in the Glenburn Wing of Woodend Hospital and this will release more beds for chronic and aged sick there. The object of this rearrangement of accommodation is to make more effective use of existing premises for hospital and for welfare purposes.
