59 and 61. Mr. Hoy

asked the Minister of Labour (1) what consideration he has given to the appointment of an officer to find suitable employment for blind persons in Scotland; and what decision he has reached;

(2) what meetings he has had with interested organisations regarding the employment of blind persons in Scotland: and with what results.

Mr. Watkinson

The Department of Health for Scotland and my Department have arranged for a conference of local authorities and others concerned with the welfare of the blind in Scotland to be held on 14th April to consider the application in Scotland of the recommendations contained in Chapter VII of the Report of the Working Party on the Employment of Blind Persons. The question of the appointment of a specialist placing officer for blind persons in Scotland will be discussed by the conference.
