HC Deb 19 March 1953 vol 513 c28W
Colonel Gomme-Duncan

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if the limit to the value of gift parcels, which members of the Forces serving overseas are allowed to send to this country free of Customs charges, can now be increased.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Yes. I am glad to announce that members of the Forces serving overseas will in future be able to send home, free of Customs charges, gift parcels not containing tobacco, liquor or scent, up to a value of £1, instead of 10s. as hitherto. I understand that notification of this concession will be effected in the appropriate Service Orders in the near future.
