HC Deb 19 March 1953 vol 513 c28W
76. Mr. J. Hynd

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what would be the cost of the proposed reductions in entertainments tax listed in the schedule submitted to him by the Cinematograph Exhibitors' Association.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

About £3¾ million a year if, as the Cinematograph Exhibitors' Association propose, cinema admission prices remained unchanged. In so far as admission prices were reduced, the cost to the Exchequer would be increased.
