asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the disproportion of telephones supplied to Northern Ireland and Wales, compared with the rest of the country; and whether he will ensure that a larger number are erected in these areas this year.

Yes. Every effort is made to ensure a fair distribution of our resources among the regions and a special review of the position is at present in progress. Because of the differing conditions in individual regions, a uniform rate of supply of telephones in any one year cannot be expected.
