HC Deb 18 March 1953 vol 513 c12W
75. Mr. Renton

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps he took in 1952. and what steps he proposes to take in 1953. in order to reduce the cost of carrying out the duties of his Department.

Mr. Lyttelton

On the original Estimate for 1952–53 economies exceeding £50,000 p.a. were effected by cutting down staff and curtailing some services. The possibility of making further economies is continuously studied but another similar reduction would seriously impair the work of the Department, which must be expected to increase with the progress of colonial development in all fields.
