HC Deb 17 March 1953 vol 512 cc188-9W
111. Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement regarding the forthcoming defence conference between representatives of the West African and British Governments.

Mr. Lyttelton

My right hon. Friend the Minister of State for Colonial Affairs will preside at a conference to be held in Lagos from the 20th April, between representatives of Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and the four British West African Governments. The purpose of the conference, which is a sequel to that held in London in 1949, will be to review the agreement then reached for the division between Her Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and the West African Governments of the cost of the West African Land Forces, on the basis of their present composition, and other related matters.
