HC Deb 17 March 1953 vol 512 cc177-8W
78. Mr. Fernyhough

asked the Minister of Works the cost of the Coronation dinner service he has recently ordered from Wedgwood's, Barlaston, factory.

Mr. Eccles

I have ordered for official use a dinner service bearing the new Royal Arms at a cost of £825. It will be used for the first time at the dinner which the Foreign Secretary traditionally offers to the Sovereign at the Coronation. Ninety sets will be retained for official hospitality in this country and their cost will be paid from the Government Hospitality Fund. The remaining 60 sets will be sent to one or perhaps two of Her Majesty's Missions overseas, and are a gift from a generous subscriber to my fund for works of art to be placed in Government buildings.
