§ Mr. Haleasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the authorities are refusing to allow children's allowance for the financial year 1953–54 in respect of children totally dependent on their parents at the commencement of the financial year but who, in the opinion of the authorities, will become available for employment in the course of the year; and whether such action is in accordance with his instructions.
§ Mr. Boyd-CarpenterIt is not the normal practice for the Inland Revenue to refuse an allowance merely because they expect a child to be available for employment in the course of the year. If174W the hon. Member has any particular case in mind and will write to me, I will look into it.
