HC Deb 16 March 1953 vol 512 cc171-2W
Lieut.-Commander Baldock

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is satisfied that every possible step is being taken to examine methods of police recruiting, in view of the fact that only by strengthening the police force can the present outbreak of crime be held in check.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

Whilst I do not accept the word "only" in the last part of this Question, I agree that it is of first importance to obtain enough recruits for the police, and I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer which I gave on 3rd March to a Question by the right hon. Gentleman the Member for South Shields (Mr. Ede).
