25. Mr. J. T. Price

asked the Minister of Transport if he will arrange for the Road Research Laboratory of Scientific and Industrial Research to investigate the claims now being made for polarised filters attached to motor headlamps as a possible solution of the dangers of dazzle on the roads.

Mr. Braithwaite

The Road Research Laboratory are already engaged in a general investigation of headlight dazzle, which will cover the use of polarising filters.

asked the Minister of Transport the number of road accidents which were attributable to headlamp dazzle during the past year.

Mr. Braithwaite

According to police reports, headlamp dazzle was responsible for 1,272 accidents involving personal injury in 1952. The total number of personal injury accidents was 171,757.
