HC Deb 12 March 1953 vol 512 c145W
85. Mr. Dudley Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture the loss or profit per resident per week for hostels run by his Department for the financial year 1951–52.

Sir T. Dugdale

The hostels run by my Department for agricultural workers are small ones. In these hostels there was a loss of 30s. 8d. per resident per week. This includes the cost of administration and of Ministry of Works services. During the year the number of hostels was reduced from 253 to 114, and the calculations include costs incurred during the period of closing down.
