HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 c51W
24. Mr. Short

asked the Minister of Health the numbers, per 1,000 of population, of notifications of tuberculosis and deaths from tuberculosis in England and Wales as a whole, and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, respectively, during 1952.

Mr. Iain Macleod

1952 figures are not yet available. The death rates from tuberculosis in 1951 were 315 per million for England and Wales and 425 per million for Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The notification rates were, respectively, 1.13 and 1.71 per thousand.

30. Mr. R. Harris

asked the Minister of Health what facts or figures are in his possession to show whether tuberculosis is imported into this country by aliens coming to reside here; and to what extent they show this to be a source of danger to the inhabitants of this country.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I have no comprehensive figures or information on this problem, but it is being considered by my Standing Tuberculosis Advisory Committee.
