HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 cc63-4W
74. Mr. Crouch

asked the Minister of Agriculture how much money has been spent in each year since 1945 in the country as a whole, and in Dorset in particular, on the examination by his officers of apiaries suspected of European foul brood disease among bees; and how much money has been spent on research into this disease during the same period.

Sir T. Dugdale

Apiaries are examined for both American and European Foul Brood Diseases and it is not possible to give separate figures for the cost of inspection where European Foul Brood Disease was suspected. Research work on a variety of bee problems is carried out at Rothamsted Experimental Station, and since 1948 the Agricultural Research Council has been making a special research grant to the Station to enable a research worker to carry out investigations on European Foul Brood Disease. Up to the end of September, 1952, these grants totalled £1,902. A further grant of £549 has been authorised for the year commencing 1st October, 1952.
