HC Deb 04 March 1953 vol 512 c33W
53. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent there has been a falling off in the number of candidates for vacancies in the Colonial Service during recent months.

Mr. Lyttelton

The figures do not indicate that there has been any recent falling off in the number of persons offering themselves for appointment to the Colonial Service. The number of firm applications rose from 14,510 in 1951 to 16,009 in 1952.
