§ 63. Mr. P. Wellsasked the Minister of Works on what date tubular scaffolding used in the erection of Coronation seats increased in price from 1s. to 1s. 9d. per foot.
§ Mr. EcclesThere are six lump-sum contracts for erecting and dismantling stands. These were let between August and December. Scaffolding is only one element in the total price and the variations in the rates quoted for scaffolding reflect differences in sites and constructions and show no general increase over the period.
§ 67. Mr. Sorensenasked the Minister of Works what is approximately the amount of timber used in the making of stands and for other purposes in connection with the Coronation; how much of this will be made available for use in connection with house building after the Coronation; and what arrangements have been made for the disposal of this timber.
§ Mr. EcclesAbout 1,800 standards of timber will be used in the erection of stands and for other purposes in connection with the Coronation. About 85 per cent. of this will be available for housing work afterwards. Under the conditions of the contract, the contractor must either himself use the timber for building or dispose of it to a timber merchant who is authorised to acquire softwood. In either case, the contractor must inform my Department.
