HL Deb 03 March 1953 vol 180 c930WA
LORD HANKEY

asked Her Majesty's Government which of the belligerent countries in Korea have ratified the Third Geneva Convention, 1949, relative to the Treatment of Prisoners-of-war; and when.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF READING)

Of the countries participating in the United Nations action in Korea, the only ones which have ratified the 1949 Prisoners of War Convention are Belgium, France and the Republic of the Philippines. They ratified respectively on September 9, 1952, June 28, 1951, and October 6, 1952. Nearly all the participating countries, including the United Kingdom, have, however, signified their acceptance of the application to this conflict of the principles of the Convention.
