§ 54. Mr. Rentonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he has taken during 1952, and what steps he will be taking in 1953, in order to reduce substantially the Administrative costs of his Department.
§ Mr. MarplesThe staff of my right hon. Friend's Department was reduced by 217—or nearly 6 per cent.—during 1952, despite pressure of work due to the increased housing programme. While this continues any further material reductions in administrative costs are unlikely, but the organisation is continuously examined for economies.
