HC Deb 02 March 1953 vol 512 cc2-3W
50. Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Food why he was unable to give the Netherlands Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food any undertaking that there would be no reduction in the level of bacon imports from Holland; and why he could give no undertaking to increase the level of bacon imports from Holland.

Dr. Hill

My right hon. and gallant Friend has assured the Netherlands Minister of his continuing desire to obtain as much Dutch bacon as possible. He has undertaken to review later in the year the possibility of increasing the rate of imports provided for under the current contract for 1953. Additional commitments could not be undertaken at the present time because of our balance of payments position.
