HC Deb 26 June 1953 vol 516 c179W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will ensure that compensation for all stock slaughtered by reason of foot-and-mouth disease is not made subject to tax, as this in fact is not income but capital needed for the purchase of more cattle to replace those compulsorily destroyed.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I am afraid that for the reasons I gave in Committee on the Finance Bill, my right hon. Friend is unable to go beyond the proposals in Clause 21 of the Bill.
