asked the Minister of Food which of the price-controlled foodstuffs have increased in price since 1st November, 1951; by how much per appropriate unit; and which foodstuffs which were price controlled on 1st November, 1951, have subsequently been decontrolled.

The following price-controlled foodstuffs have increased in price since 1st November, 1951, by the amounts stated:

Commodity Increase in maximum retail price
Bacon 1s. 3d. per lb. (weighted average).
National Bread 1½d. per 1¾ lb.
Butter 6d. per lb.
Cheese (rationed) 1s. 0d. per lb.
Compound Cooking Fat-Lard. 2d. per lb.
Condensed Milk ld.-2d. per can.
Flour (National or Imported). 2¾d. per lb.
Flour (Self-Raising) 2½d. per lb.
Margarine 2d. per lb.
Carcase Meat 4d. per lb. (average).
Canned Corned Meat 1s. 8d. per lb.
Milk ½d. per pint.
Potatoes 4d. per 7 lbs. (weighted average). Note: The prices of potatoes always show seasonal rises. The average price increase since June, 1952, is ½d. per lb.
Rice (whole) 5d. per lb.
Sugar (domestic) 1d. per lb.
Syrup and Treacle ½d. per lb.

The following foodstuffs which were price controlled on 1st November, 1951, have subsequently been decontrolled:

  • Bananas.
  • Biscuits.
  • Cereal Fillers.
  • Chocolate and Sugar Confectionery.
  • Cocoa Powder and Drinking Chocolate.
  • Coffee.
  • Cream (clotted).
  • Eggs and Egg Products.
  • Flour Confectionery.
  • Meat Products and Canned Meats (other Canned Corned Meat).
  • Semolina.
  • Tea.
