HC Deb 19 June 1953 vol 516 cc96-7W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister if he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to investigate the whole problem of the relationship between the universities and the needs of society.

The Prime Minister

I see no reason to be dissatisfied with the way in which the needs of society have been met by the universities. I do not think that the appointment of a Royal Commission would be a suitable way of dealing with a matter which requires to be under constant notice by the Government.
