HC Deb 17 June 1953 vol 516 c66W
70. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will give the total Government expenditure in Africa on the groundnuts scheme, and a full report on the proposed arrangements for a private concern to take over ownership or managerial responsibility.

Mr. Lyttelton

According to the published accounts of the Overseas Food Corporation the total amount expended from the Consolidated Fund to 31st March, 1951, was £38,753,300.

With regard to the second part, there is no truth in the report that the groundnuts scheme is to be handed over to private ownership or management.
