HC Deb 17 June 1953 vol 516 cc78-80W
Mr. Remnant

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether the concessions in respect of amateur-grown tobacco are to be renewed this year.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Yes. Amateurs will continue to be allowed to grow and cure tobacco for their own use free of duty, and growers' associations not established or conducted for profit will be permitted to cure amateur-grown tobacco, subject to compliance with the standing conditions. Growers should, however, verify that any association to which they intend to send tobacco for curing has been approved under these conditions.
