asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has appointed the Iron and Steel Holding and Realisation Agency.

Yes. I have appointed the Iron and Steel Holding and Realisation Agency in accordance with the provisions of the Iron and Steel Act, 1953. The Act prescribes that in addition to the Chairman the Agency shall be composed of not less than three nor more than six members. For the moment I have appointed five members in addition to the Chairman.

Sir John Morison, a member of the firm of Thomson McLintock and Co., has agreed to become Chairman of the Agency at a salary of £6,000. He is surrendering those of his directorships which could conflict with his duties as Chairman of the Agency.

Sir John Green, now Chairman of the Iron and Steel Corporation of Great Britain, has agreed to serve as a member of the Agency at a salary of £3,500 and will take up his appointment with the Agency when the Corporation is dissolved. He will devote the greater part of his time to the business of the Agency.

The following gentlemen have agreed to serve as members of the Agency at a salary of £1,000:

  • Mr. A. C. Bull, a retired senior official of the Bank of England.
  • Sir Thomas Chadwick, accountant of the Treasury until 31st May of this year.
  • Sir Oliver Franks, lately H.M. Ambassador in Washington.
  • Mr. C. P. L. Whishaw, solicitor, a member of the firm of Freshfields.
