HC Deb 31 July 1953 vol 518 cc237-8W
Mr. Proctor

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement regarding the preliminary work in respect of the proposed new motor road over the Manchester Ship Canal near Barton Bridge, Eccles.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have now decided that this preliminary work can properly be authorised, subject to approval of details, on the understanding that if and when the construction of the bridge is approved the preliminary work will rank for any grant that may be made from the Road Fund, and on the further understanding that the approval of the preliminary work will not in any way commit me as to the priority to be given to the construction of the bridge.
