HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 c175W
14. Mrs. Mann

asked the Minister of Health the cost during 1951 and 1952 of proprietary medicines now classed under 5 and 6 in the circular just issued to medical practitioners.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I regret that precise information is not available. An approximate estimate of the ingredient cost of these preparations where ordered under Part IV of the National Health Service Act, 1946, is £970,000 in 1951 and £1,120,000 in 1952, or about 3.5 per cent. of the ingredient cost of all preparations dispensed under that part of the Act in the respective years. Dispensing fees and container allowances would have to be added to the above figures.
