HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 cc215-6W
Mr. Gower

asked the Minister of National Insurance (1) what proportion of the 38,104 members of his staff, expected to be at their posts on 1st September, 1953, will be employed in Wales;

(2) what proportion of his estimates of £19,688,000 for salaries and wages is spent in Wales.

Mr. Turton

The following figures relate to the new Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance, which has however not yet been established: they set out the position as it is expected to be on 1st September next. Of the total staff about 5 per cent. will be employed in Wales, and of the amount provided for salaries, etc., of £19,688,000—which includes for the period up to 31st August, the salaries of certain staff who will then be transferred to the Health Departments—about £1 million will be in respect of staff in Wales, and the balance for staff in England and Scotland, and for the small number employed in Northern Ireland and overseas.
