HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 c220W
Mr. J. Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to what extent the recommendations of the Morris-Carter Commission on Kenya have been implemented.

Mr. Lyttelton

I would refer the hon. Member to Cmd. 4580 of 1934 which contains a summary of conclusions reached by His Majesty's Government on the Kenya Land Commission Report. These were implemented by legislation, the more important of which is:

  • The Kenya (Native Areas) Orders in Council, 1939 and 1948;
  • The Kenya (Highlands) Order in Council, 1939;
  • The Native Land Trust Ordinance, 1938, as subsequently amended; and
  • The Crown Lands (Amendment) Ordinance, 1938, as subsequently amended.
