Mr. Watkinsasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he will indicate the date upon which a telephone kiosk will be provided at Llanbadarn-y-Garreg, Radnorshire; and whether he is aware that this kiosk was promised in 1951.
§ Mr. GammansThe kiosk was provided on 21st June.
Mr. Watkinsasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the Hay Rural District Council submitted that a telephone kiosk should be provided at Capel-y-Ffin, Breconshire, in 1949 and that the application has been renewed annually but rejected; and when a kiosk will be provided, in view of the distance of four miles to the nearest kiosk.
§ Mr. GammansI should like this kiosk to be provided, but about 8 miles of new wiring and over 100 poles would be required, and our resources have not so far been sufficient to justify this scale of effort for a single installation. I understand that a possible way of meeting the difficulty is under consideration locally, and I am hopeful that this may provide a solution.
Mr. Watkinsasked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware that 210W the Knighton Rural District Council have recommended the provision of a telephone kiosk at Crossway, Llanbister, since 1949, and that since then this has been priority No. 1 site within the district; when this kiosk will be erected; and why this district, situated within the area of the special survey reported by the Council for Wales and Monmouthshire on rural depopulation is denied telephone facilities.
§ Mr. GammansI hope that this kiosk will be erected during the current financial year. Six kiosks will then have been installed in the Knighton rural district since 1949.
